An increase of public health and veterinary significance of some strains of Salmonella Typhimurium in the last 20 years is partly explained by the emergence of a multiresistance genetic island (SGI1). The subtask of VMRI is focusing on the significance of SGI1 in pathogenetic and spreading attributes of S. Typhimurium.
